First world war setting for this Golden Age classic mystery which starts with a memorable scene during the fighting and transforms into an English country mystery. First of the three novels by this author. Very scarce, particularly in the dustwrapper. Book is in very good condition, with just a very slight lean, some light flecking to the edges of the text black and some offsetting to the endpapers from the dustjacket flaps. Priced, as called for, at 7/6d to the spine. Undated but published in 1930. The wrapper is in generally VG condition, with some age toning and some abrasions to the rear cover (see scans). An excellent example of this now highly regarded mystery.
