Description
Originally published, unattributed, in 1708, this edition was reprinted by the Scottish ballad collector Peter Buchan who dedicated its publication in a foreword to the Earl of Fife ‘Thane of Fife’. It is in efect a work of early erotic fiction with Macbeth cast in the role of amorous pursuant. Edward Cowan asserts that the work appears to have been written to praise the 9th Earl of Argyll, Archibald (1685) who is charicatured in the hero, Angus. An oddity, and rare even in this new edition. Some foxing to text. Bound for ?private library use with a class mark to spine abd label removed from front cover. Lending label (unused) to front pastedown. First thus.
