“Blue cloth, black titles. A very scarce early Winston Graham in the elusive first edition. VG+. This came from an auction lot of books which had previously been sold at Sotheby’s in their ‘Chatsworth Sale’ – there is a label to that effect on the inner pastedown. Chatsworth was the residence of the royally connected Dukes of Devonshire. Many of the books have the pencilled comments on the fep of presumably one of the Chatsworth owners in residence. The unknown noble or lady was a harsh critic. This nautical mystery by the author of teh Poldark series is given short shrift and the critique is “”stupid and nasty”” which rather makes me want to read it…”
