Description
“Very scarce ephemeral production. Purportedly autobiographical, stories relating to Musselburgh horse races set around 1880-1900. Somewhat similar to.Waters’ “”Recollections of a Detective Police Officer’ or James Mc’Levy’s Edinburgh tales of the 1860s. Evidence in the book (eg Lord Roseberry’s ‘recent’ marriage – 1850s – and at the end a soldier having died in Egypt – perhaps the 1882 operations) suggests this book dates from the late 80s. Interestingly Waters was a pseudonym for William Russell so it is possible this was worked up by him for publication Original paper covers slightly worn, but surprisingly weel preserved considering the nature of this publication”
