Wardle was prominent in an action arising from the scandals relating tom the relationship of Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, the commander-in-chief of the army, with Mary Anne Clarke. Wardle brought forward a motion against the Duke on 27 January 1809 which although unsuccessful brought about the Duke’s retirement from his position.
