A beautifully rebound copy of this classic account of Africa in the early 19th Century. Gardiner attempted to establish missionary stations without any lasting success. He was to continue his travels until the death of all of his party, due to starvation on Picton Island, in 1851. Modern quarter leather fine binding is tight and attractive, with raised bands and gilt titling. Original title page bound in. Plates, including the coloured frontispiece, are all present.
